What is a PDF Binder and How to PDF Binders?

Answer

What is a PDF Binder?

A PDF binder is a collection of documents in various formats merged into a single PDF file. With the Binder feature in Foxit PDF Editor Pro, you can organize documents in a specific order, generate a customized table of contents (TOC), and save the binder as a project or template for future use. This feature is particularly useful for consolidating related documents into one cohesive presentation or report.

How to Create a PDF Binder?
Steps to Create a Binder from Scratch:
1.Start a Blank Binder Project:
Go to File > Create > Binder > Blank Project.
In the "Make Binder" dialog box, add files to the binder, customize their arrangement, and set up TOC generation.

2.Add Files/Folders:
Click Add… and select Add Files or Add Folder to include files from Windows File Explorer or ECM systems.
Create folders within the binder using the Create Folder button, then add files to specific folders.

3.Arrange Files:
Drag and drop files/folders to reorder them. To remove items, select them and click Remove.
4.File Conversion Options:
By default, non-PDF files are automatically converted to PDFs when added. To keep them as attachments, double-click the Convert to PDF column and deselect the checkbox.

5.Set TOC Template and Metadata (Optional):
Click Options to configure a predefined TOC template (e.g., a Word file) and add custom metadata fields.
Edit the TOC template by inserting dynamic fields (e.g., <>) for document-specific data.
6.Output Settings:
Click Output Options to specify the name and location of the PDF binder, and select options like:
Generate and edit the TOC.
Open the binder file after creation.
Show the binder in Windows Explorer.
7.Save Binder Project or Template:
Save the binder project or export it as a template for future use by clicking Save.

8.Create the Binder:
Click Make Binder to generate the PDF binder.

Using an Existing Binder Template:
To create a PDF binder from a saved template, go to File > Create > Binder > From Custom Template, select the template (.bdrt format), and follow the above steps.

Editing an Existing Binder Project:
To edit an existing binder project, go to File > Create > Binder > Open, select the project, and make modifications.

By following these steps, you can efficiently create and manage PDF binders tailored to your needs.
