How to register FoxitPrevHndlr.dll
FoxitPreHndlr.dll is a plugin for previewing PDFs in Outlook application and Preview Pane in Windows Explorer.
Assume you are having 64-bit of Foxit PDF Editor, which is installed on "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\" on Windows 10 or greater, complete the following:
- Right click on Windows Start, choose Command Prompt (Admin)
- Choose Yes, if there is a "User Account Control' confirming message.
- In the command line, input
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll", press Enter.
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll", press Enter. - You will see a success message displayed on the screen if the registration succeeded.
If you are using 64-bit of Foxit PDF Reader, assume it is installed on "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Reader\"
If you are running on Windows 10 and a great version, complete the following:
- Right click on Windows Start, choose Command Prompt (Admin)
- Choose Yes, if there is a "User Account Control' confirming message.
- In the command line, input
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Reader\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll", press Enter.
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Reader\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll", press Enter. - You will see a Success message displayed on the screen if the registration succeeded.
If the above steps don't assist you in setting Foxit as the default PDF viewer, please execute the following command line:
1:Open command prompt with administrator right.
2:Please paste the the follow command-line into the “Administrator :Comand Prompt” window,please Enter key on your keyboard to execute this command-line:
reg add HKCR\.pdf\ShellEx\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f} /ve /d {1B96FAD8-1C10-416E-8027-6EFF94045F6F} /f
The above command would change the default PDF preview handler module in the following registry location automatically:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf\shellex\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
The changes are usually instant; no need to restart Windows.
How to register FoxitThumbnailHndlr_x64.dll
If you are using 64-bit of Foxit PDF Editor, assume it is installed on "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\"
If you are running on Windows 10 and a great version, complete the following:
- Right click on Windows Start, choose Command Prompt (Admin)
- Choose Yes, if there is a "User Account Control' confirming message.
- In the command line, input
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitThumbnailHndlr_x64.dll", press Enter.
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitThumbnailHndlr_x64.dll", press Enter. - You will see a success message displayed on the screen if the registration succeeded.
If you are using 64-bit of Foxit PDF Reader, assume it is installed on "C:\Program Files\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Reader\"

The above command would change the default PDF icon thumbnail previewer in the following registry location automatically:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf\ShellEx\{E357FCCD-A995-4576-B01F-234630154E96}
The changes are usually instant; no need to restart Windows.
Reset Outlook Previewer to Foxit
The file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it
