Fix Rotated PDF Annotations After Copying
Explains why annotations or drawings appear rotated 90 or 180 degrees when copied between PDF files in Foxit PDF Editor.
Answer
The explanation in this article clarifies why annotations, drawning may appear rotated when copied between pages with different rotation settings:
We cannot prevent the situation where annotations/drawings get rotated 90°/180° when copied from one PDF to another PDF file with different orientations. Here is an explanation of why this behavior occurs: Just because you see a page oriented correctly in a PDF file does not necessarily mean that the page was originally created with that rotation. Depending on the application and PDF converter used, a page may be created with its content actually rotated by 90(or 180) degrees. To ensure the content is displayed correctly for the viewer, the application or PDF generator adds a rotation flag to the page indicating "rotate by -90/180deg." This flag instructs the PDF viewer to show the page in its natural orientation.
When you initially place an annotation in Foxit PDF Editor, the software considers the page rotation and applies the annotation with the necessary rotation setting to appear correctly on the page. When you copy that annotation, you also copy the rotation setting. Consequently, when you paste the annotation onto the same page or a different page in the same document created with the same rotation, it will appear as intended. However, if you paste a rotated annotation from one page onto another page with a different rotation setting, the annotation will not look correct due to the mismatch in rotation settings.
To adjust the rotated annotations, drawings that you have pasted, you can use the rotate function in Foxit PDF Editor. Here’s how:
1.After selecting the annotations, or drawings, use the Edit > Select > Select Annotation tool to click and select any annotation. A rotate icon will appear at the top of the border of the selected object.
2.Place your cursor on this rotate icon and turn it to adjust the orientation of the current object. For example, if you want to rotate it 90 degrees, turn the rotate icon 90 degrees.
3.Alternatively, you can use the Select Annotation tool while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select multiple objects at once. After selecting, right-click on the selected objects, and use the rotate icon to adjust their orientation.
