FAQs: Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint Users
Answers frequently asked questions about using Foxit PDF Editor Cloud with SharePoint.
Answer
Last updated: April 28, 2026
Microsoft retired the legacy SharePoint Add-in framework on April 2, 2026. The previous Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint integration was built on this framework. Foxit released a new SPFx-based plugin on January 20, 2026, built on the modern SharePoint Framework. The new plugin offers improved security, governance, admin control, and better performance within the modern SharePoint experience.
What will I see if I am affected? One or more of the following:
- PDF links that previously opened in Foxit now fail to open.
- Error message containing AADSTS7000222 or invalid_client
- "SharePoint login failed" notification when opening a PDF in Foxit Editor Cloud
- The legacy Foxit app appears in SharePoint but does not function
Yes. Microsoft has fully retired the SharePoint Add-in framework. We strongly recommend switching to the new SharePoint integration as soon as possible.
What can I do with the new plugin? The new SPFx plugin lets you:
- Open files from SharePoint directly in Foxit Editor Cloud
- Edit, organize, export, and combine PDFs
- Convert non-PDF files to PDF
- Combine multiple selected files into a single PDF
- View and comment without a license. Advanced editing tools require an active subscription
The new plugin is available now in:
- Microsoft Marketplace: https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/WA200009895
- SharePoint Store (via your tenant App Catalog)

How do I switch from the legacy plugin to the new SharePoint integration?- Uninstall the legacy add-in. Instructions: https://kb.foxit.com/s/articles/15038231545876-How-to-uninstall-Foxit-PDF-Editor-Cloud-in-SharePoint
- Install the new SPFx plugin from the Microsoft Marketplace or SharePoint Store
- Site owners add the plugin to specific sites, or admin deploys tenant-wide
- Allow up to 30 minutes for Microsoft 365 CDN propagation
These are SharePoint Framework limitations, not Foxit-specific:
- Left-click on a PDF will not open Foxit. Users must right-click or use the three-dot menu and select "Open with Foxit PDF Editor"
- The plugin is deployed at the site level only. Per-user or per-group scoping is not supported
- The legacy plugin may continue to appear in SharePoint after uninstalling. Microsoft has acknowledged this behavior. Contact Foxit Support if it persists
Why is the Foxit Editor Cloud option greyed out?
Why is the Foxit Editor Cloud option greyed out?
A greyed-out Foxit menu option indicates the legacy plugin is still installed. If both the legacy plugin and the new integration are installed on the same site, you may also see duplicate Foxit entries in the menu. The new integration items (Organize Pages by Foxit, Export PDF by Foxit, Combine Files by Foxit) will continue to work as expected.
To resolve this, uninstall the legacy plugin by following the steps in this article: https://kb.foxit.com/s/articles/15038231545876-How-to-uninstall-Foxit-PDF-Editor-Cloud-in-SharePoint
I followed the uninstall steps, but the legacy plugin is still showing. What else can I do?SharePoint sometimes retains menu items from the legacy plugin after it has been uninstalled. Microsoft enforces a 48-hour wait period before the legacy menu items fully clear from SharePoint. This is a Microsoft platform behavior and cannot be changed by Foxit.
