Configure 3D Content Playback in Foxit PDF Editor

Explains which settings in Foxit PDF Editor or Foxit PDF Reader affect the playback of 3D content embedded in a PDF.

Answer

Support for Foxit PDF Editor v11 and v12 has been discontinued as of August 13, 2025. Upgrade to v14 to continue receiving support.

For Version 11.1 and above.

Since version 11.1, the process of pop-up windows when 3D is enabled has been optimized, and the number of pop-up windows has been reduced, there are the following options in Foxit PDF Editor/Foxit PDF Reader version 11.1 and above which will affect the playing of 3D content in PDF file:

1: Preferences>Security>Privileged Locations

2.Preferences>Security>Protected View

3: Preferences>Trust Manager>Enable Safe Reading Mode

4:Preferences>3D>Enable playing of 3D content

The priority of the above options is 1>2>3>4

Below is a brief chart about how these options affect the playing of 3D content:

privileged Location Protected view Safe reading mode Enable playing of 3D content workflow

The current PDF has already been added to Privileged Locations.

(Preferences>Security>Privileged Locations)

No prompt will pop up, Foxit will enable 3D directly or enable 3D after clicking the 3D area in PDF file.

The current PDF hasn’t been added to Privileged Locations. off Enabled

Foxit will bring up a pop-up message which says "a 3D PDF file,it will bring up a message which says "Some features have ben disabled to avoid potential security risks. Only enable these features if you trust this document."

  • If you choose " Trust this document one time only" this option,Foxit will enable 3D directly or enable the 3D after clicking on the 3D area in the PDF file. Before the existing document is closed, it is equivalent to temporarily adding the PDF file to privileged locations. And the "file in the privileged locations temporarily” will become invalid after the document is closed.
  • If you choose "Trust this document always" this optoin,Foxit will add the existing PDF file to privileged locations and will then enable 3D directly or enable 3D after clicking on the 3D area in the PDF file. After then, this PDF file will be opened with "PDF file in privileged locations" this workflow.
  • If you choose "Cancel" or "Close": The document will be opened in read-only mode which won't enable 3D in PDF file.
off Disabled Checked
