Centrally Manage Foxit PDF Editor Templates

Explains how to centrally manage templates for watermarks, backgrounds, headers, footers, and stamps in Foxit PDF Editor.

Answer

Starting from Foxit PDF Editor for Windows versions V2025.2 and V14.0, centralized management of templates for watermark, background, header/footer, and stamp can be configured using one of three tools: GPO template, Foxit Customization Tool (FCT), or Foxit XML Editor Tool. This feature enables administrators to provide users with centralized templates that are pre-configured and managed by the administrator.

It is important to note that Foxit PDF Reader supports only the configuration of stamp templates, as it does not provide functionality for watermark, background, or header/footer templates.

Steps for Configuration

Step 1: Create the Shared Directory

Administrators must first create a local or LAN shared directory that includes a folder named "UpdateTemplate". For example:

  • Path: D:\test\UpdateTemplate

Within this folder, create the following four empty subfolders:

  • AdministratorStamps
  • Background
  • HeaderFooter
  • WaterMark

Step 2: Place Pre-configured Templates in the Shared Directory

Next, administrators need to copy the pre-configured templates from a local machine into the corresponding subfolders within the shared directory. Below are the paths for locating and copying different types of templates:

1.Watermark Templates:
From:
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Foxit Software\Continuous\Foxit PDF Editor\PageFormat\WaterMark
To:
D:\test\UpdateTemplate\WaterMark

2.Stamp Templates:
From:
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Foxit Software\Continuous\Foxit PDF Editor\Stamps\UserStamps
To:
D:\test\UpdateTemplate\AdministratorStamps

3.Background Templates:
From:
C:\Users\foxit\AppData\Roaming\Foxit Software\Continuous\Foxit PDF Editor\PageFormat\Background
To:
D:\test\UpdateTemplate\Background

4. Header/Footer Templates:
From:
C:\Users\foxit\AppData\Roaming\Foxit Software\Continuous\Foxit PDF Editor\PageFormat\HeaderFooter
To:
D:\test\UpdateTemplate\HeaderFooter

Step 3: Configure Using GPO template, Foxit Customization Tool (FCT), or Foxit XML Editor Tool.

Once the shared directory and templates are set up, administrators can use GPO template, Foxit Customization Tool (FCT), or Foxit XML Editor Tool to configure centralized management. Below is an example of configuration using GPO templates:

1.Access Group Policy Editor:
Navigate to Foxit PDF Editor > Preferences and click on Configure templates for watermark, background, header/footer, and stamp option to bring up the Configure templates for watermark, background, header/footer, and stamp option window.

2. Enable Template Configuration:
Select the Enabled option to allow users to utilize shared templates for watermark, background, header/footer, and stamp. Enter the shared directory path (e.g., D:\test\UpdateTemplate) in the corresponding field.

3.Restrict User-Created Templates (Optional):
Check the Do not allow users to use templates created by themselves option if you wish to restrict users from creating new templates and using templates they create independently.

Visual Examples

  • Screenshots are provided to demonstrate the effects of enabling or disabling the Do not allow users to use templates created by themselves option for both stamp templates and background templates.

This structured approach ensures centralized control over user access to templates, improving consistency and administrative oversight.
