64-bit Foxit PDF Editor for Windows: Upgrade Guide

Explains the availability of the 64-bit version of Foxit PDF Editor for Windows and how to upgrade to it.

Answer

Windows Editor: 64-bit Version Availability and Upgrade Guidance

Starting with Windows Editor versions v2025.2 and v14, Foxit now offers a native 64-bit version of the Editor. This upgrade is designed to take full advantage of modern 64-bit systems, delivering better performance and scalability.

Upgrade Guidance

  • If you're currently using a 32-bit version, you’ll continue to receive updates for that version automatically.
  • There is no automatic upgrade to the 64-bit version.
  • To switch to the 64-bit Editor, you’ll need to manually download and install it.
  • After installing the 64-bit version, all future updates will apply to that version only.

Plugin Compatibility

Many users rely on third-party plugins built using Foxit’s 32-bit SDK, which are not compatible with the 64-bit Editor. To avoid disrupting workflows, automatic upgrades are not enabled.

Key Considerations:

  • Foxit-developed plugins (e.g., FileOpen, DocuSign, Office) are available in both 32-bit and 64-bit formats.
  • Third-party plugins may not yet support the 64-bit version.
  • Before upgrading, please check with your plugin providers to confirm 64-bit compatibility.
  • Visit the Foxit Add-ons page to download the correct plugin version for your Editor. Download PDF Reader and PDF Editor Add-ons | Foxit

Download Options

  • In the Admin Console, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available for download.
  • On the Foxit website, the download page automatically detects your operating system and provides the corresponding version:
    • 64-bit OS → 64-bit Editor
    • 32-bit OS → 32-bit Editor

If you need access to both versions at the same time, please contact Foxit Support to explore available options.

Important Reminders
  • 32-bit plugins will not work with the 64-bit Editor.
  • Some third-party plugins may not show compatibility warnings during installation.
  • Foxit cannot support or modify third-party plugins, as they are developed externally.
